Christian College, Kattakada was established in 1965. The college is managed by the society for Higher Education of the SIUC community of the Church of South India registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955 (S.No. 143 of 1977) Affiliated to the University of Kerala and recognised by the University Grants Commission, the college is located in a sprawling area of rustic land in the PoovachalPanchayat area under Kattakada Taluk, 20km east of Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala State, South India.
Awakening to the aspirations of higher education, Rev. Legg, the erstwhile Bishop of South Kerala Diocese, founded the institution on 1965 July 22 in a serene locality in Poovachal panchayat under Nedumangad taluk, 20 kms from the city of Thiruvananthapuram. Started as a junior college affiliated to the University of Kerala, Christian College is now looked upon as the upshot of the sweat and toil of the SIUC community of the South Kerala Diocese. Upgraded in 1976-77 to an undergraduate Arts and Science college, the institution now offers Under-Graduate courses in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, History, Economics and Commerce along with Post-Graduate courses in Botany, Chemistry and Physics. The college was accredited by NAAC in 2011 and was awarded ‘B’ grade. Christian College, Kattakada has had able academicians and administrators at its helm from the very early days of its inception.
Rt. Rev. V. William, Most. Rt. Rev. Dr. I. Jesudasan, Rt. Rev. Dr. Samuel Amritham and the Most. Rt. Rev. Dr. J. W. Gladstone were the former chairpersons of the institution. Most. Rev. A. Dharmaraj Rasalam, Bishop of the South Kerala Diocese, is the present chairperson and REV A P Christal Jayaraj serves as the manager. The founder manager of the college was Rev. James William Rasalam, who was followed by such eminent personalities as Rev. J.W. Rasalam, Sri. T. Y. Harris, Sri. T. N. Rasalam IPS (Rtd), Sri. Chellathurai Raja, Rev. Dr. G. Robinson, Mr. I Clement, Adv. E.J. Vijayadas Rev. Dr. G. Sobhanam, Rev Dr. Benglastone, Rev. Dr. T. Selvarajan, Prof A. S. Ben Roy, Rev. D. Jacob and Dr. Bennet Abraham, Rev CR Godwin.
